Porcelain is the most elusive of clays—so responsive to touch, yet challenging every move. Delores Fortuna will demonstrate her wheel-throwing and form alteration techniques and discuss the relationship between form and surface in the object-making process. Delores will share images of past and current work, especially her most recent series, “Exquisite Landscapes,” and welcomes participants to share images of their work.

About the artist:

Nationally-known ceramic artist Delores Fortuna has a vibrant history with over 35+ years of experience, including teaching ceramics at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for 16 years. Today, she works from her Northern Wisconsin studio.

Inspired by basic throwing shapes and traditional functional pieces, Fortuna seeks her own modernist-inspired flair. To her, “forming function is a dance, often a tug-of-war between thought and object-making.” Fortuna describes her process as scientific, a journey of seeing new information. Through her own formulated porcelain clay mix or glazes, she continues to experiment with the intricacies of the medium.
